The Back-to-School Car Check: Are you keeping the Family Car Ready for the School Run?

It’s that time of year again! The schoolbags are packed, uniforms are laid out, and the morning routine is getting back into full swing (and who loves mornings?!) But while you’re busy organising the kids, have you thought about whether your family car is ready for the school run?

After all, nothing throws off a morning quite like the car you rely on deciding it won't start, a warning light suddenly appears out of nowhere, or a tyre looks a little too flat for comfort. A few simple checks can keep things running smoothly:

• • Fluids & Oil: Oil is the lifeblood of your engine. Check your oil levels regularly (it's easy, and if you aren't a car person we'll happily give you guidance on the right way to check) and keep an eye on its coolant, brake fluid levels, and washer fluid. • • Tyres: Worn or under-inflated tyres aren’t just inefficient—they’re unsafe. Before the school run chaos begins, check your tyre tread depths and pressures. Again, if you’re unsure, drop into Car Doctor for a tyre inspection and pressure check.

• • Brakes: Smooth stopping is essential, especially with your precious cargo in the back. If you’ve noticed any squeaks or grinding noises when you press the brakes, or the pedal feels unusual or spongy, it’s best to get them checked right away.
